This is a fantasy novel whose cast is composed of majority BIPOC and with lots of lgbtq+ representation. The main characters are semidioses (demigods) and dios (gods), but otherwise religion isn’t a part of the story. There is a class structure that is a constant topic throughout the book. Sol, the first god, is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. There are other characters who use they/them pronouns, and multiple other trans people, including the main character who is a trans man. There is a deaf character, Dezi, but the main character doesn’t know sign language, so most of Dezi’s communication goes un-translated. He is able to communicate in sign with his friends and family, but as the reader there is a language barrier. Romance-wise, there are multiple queer characters, shown through feelings/crushes or their sexuality is casually mentioned.
