Own Voice: Not exactly, the author collaborated with the person who it is about

The main story focuses on a boy on his own in war-torn South Sudan. He suffers incredible hardships and overcomes them. A secondary story is woven in about a girl who’s time and energy are consumed by obtaining water for her family.

There are some horrible tragedies that befall some of the companions that may be shocking, but not necessarily inappropriate for 6th grade students or older.
